It was trial experience which in 1979 prompted former Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General Bill Baxley to establish the law firm known today as Baxley, Dillard, Dauphin, McKnight & Barclift.

Unlike any other State Attorney General, Baxley served as lead trial counsel in every major action involving the State of Alabama. The firm's litigation practice reflects that willingness and desire to go to trial. The firm's civil litigation practice has a diverse client base, composed of both individuals and some of Alabama's largest and most successful corporations.

Pursuing claims in state and federal courts for individuals, while defending equal numbers of similar actions on behalf of business and insurance companies, has earned the firm recognition for its diversity, expertise, and strong representation of its clients. The firm's criminal defense reputation is also significant, primarily due to its long standing white collar defense practice.
